Pros and Cons of This Technology
With this technology, there are pros and cons to the development just like every other new form of technology. Fortunately, in our case, most potential uses and effects are positive.
Pros: The major positive outcome of this technology is that it would save thousands of lives and improve the lives of millions who suffer from severe brain damage, paralysis, Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, MS, and ALS. The effects of any neurodegenerative disease would be reversed. The quality of our lives in our later years of living would also be improved as if made available for most people, our memory would stay sharp.
Cons: However, of course there are a few downsides. The expenses to conduct the research, and to have therapy done on patients would be very expensive, racking up health care bills and would only really be available for those who are wealthy (at first). Also, there is still a moral issue among the use of embryonic stem cells (but we do have ideas to prevent the use of embryos as a continuous source).
